Modernisation of Higher Education in Central Asia through New Technologies
HiEdTec, which started in 2018 and completed in November 2022, focused on supporting the digital transformation of three higher education institutions (HEIs) in Turkmenistan. The project promoted the adaptation of these universities to the digital age through the introduction and effective use of ICT-based innovative educational technologies and didactic models in the teaching and learning process.

The project provided a strong foundation for the digital transformation of the three participating higher education institutions in Turkmenistan: the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, and the Turkmen State Institute of Energy.

Among the key achievements of HiEdTec were:

  • Establishment of Centres for Innovative Educational Technologies, including three active learning classrooms at each university;
  • Introduction of synchronous distance-learning systems at each participating university;
  • Training of five trainers from each university in the field of innovative educational technologies;
  • Development by Ruse University of a rich virtual library containing presentations and video lectures on innovative educational technologies;
  • Creation of five web-based courses by each partner university;
  • Consolidation of all developed web-based courses into a single virtual library;
Training of more than 1,000 teachers in the field of innovative educational technologies.
