CRENG was implemented from 2018 to 2021 by a consortium of four EU partners, three Ukrainian, three Azerbaijani, and three Turkmen universities. The Turkmen partners included the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Turkmen State Institute of Communication and Information Technologies, and the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction.
Against the backdrop of globalization, growing traffic volumes, and rapid technological change, transport systems are becoming increasingly complex and vulnerable to crises and disasters. The project aimed to integrate CRENG technologies into university curricula and create a modern learning environment for training highly qualified specialists in line with labour market needs and EU best practices.
Key achievements of CRENG included:- Development of innovative, practice-oriented MA programmes in CRENG technologies, incorporating the latest advances in science, the Internet, 3D printing, big data, and robotics.
- Introduction of new teaching and learning approaches, including the Skills Wallet and International Project-Based Learning (IPBL), to strengthen graduates' communication, management, and English-language skills.
- Establishment of innovative CRENG laboratories at all partner universities.
- Creation of CRENG Service Offices, supporting the integration of Central Asian countries into the global transport and logistics community.
- Enhancement of universities' capacity to prepare highly qualified specialists in crisis and risk engineering for transport services.
The project also responded flexibly to economic developments in Turkmenistan, supporting the country’s growing transport sector and its integration into the global transportation system.
