Erasmus Mundus Actions

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters / Erasmus Mundus Design Measures

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) programmes are designed and offered
by a consortium of at least three higher education institutions from different countries. Their programme offers skills for a particular profession or research sector: each partner in a consortium offers different parts of the programme. The EU funding covers a number of full scholarships for students and a contribution to the costs of managing the programme and hosting guest lecturers. A higher education institution may be a full member of an Erasmus Mundus master programme, or an associated partner of a consortium. The associated partner of a consortium receives no direct EU funding however is allowed benefiting from a deeply integrated network and some ad hoc cooperation opportunities.

Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) support the design of new, innovative and highly integrated master programmes by facilitating the setup of international partnerships required for the delivery of such programmes.

EMJM — main:
  • Full degree programmes at Master level
  • Study at two or more universities
  • Full scholarships (participation fees, travel, living costs) for the best-ranked applicants from all over the world

How to apply for a scholarship:
Check the catalogue of masters' courses
Consult the Erasmus Mundus Catalogue
and apply directly to the course:
https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/opportunities/opportunities-for-individuals/students/erasmus-mundus-joint-masters
Application period: December — January for programmes starting in September

No age limits: you can apply even if you have been working

EMDM — main:
EMDM encourage HEIs to develop new, innovative and highly integrated master programmes by an international partnership of HEIs. Other educational and non-educational partners with specific expertise and interest in the area of study may be involved. EMDM aim to involve EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme, institutions, and/or thematic areas that are in some way under-represented in Erasmus Mundus

How it works
The beneficiary should initiate contacts and collaboration activities in view of setting up the master’s programme to offer a fully integrated curriculum. The international partnership of HEIs should be composed by at least three HEIs from three different countries, of which at least two must be EU Member States and third countries associated to the Programme. The master’s programme includes compulsory physical mobility for all recruited students and has the ambition of recruiting excellent candidates worldwide. By the end of the project, the involved HEIs will have to agree the basic joint mechanisms for the master programme under development:
  • Joint procedures for student application, admission, selection and monitoring rules
  • Procedures for student examinations and performance evaluation
  • Joint programme design and integrated teaching/training activities
  • Common services offered to students
