25 March 2024

GEOCLIC / New Courses on Geospatial Engineering for Climate Change Adaptation of Coastal Ecosystems was started in 2021 targeted to modernize BA / MSc / PhD curricula in geospatial technologies in order to ensure environmental safety of coastal ecosystems using new technologies: GEONETCast; GIS Software — ILWIS. The Team focused on the development of new BA, MA, and PhD programs and modernization of the current curricula for training specialists in the field of ecology, management and engineering of coastal zones with competencies to use remote sensing tools and geospatial technologies. Due to the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters and climate changing, CA countries particularly need to have specialists for monitoring and managing the coastal ecosystems therefore the project has become an opportunity to get closer to solving these problems.
The project consortium involved five EU partners, three Central Asia countries and Azerbaijan universities. Three Turkmen universities took part in the project: International University for Humanities and Development of Turkmenistan (IUHD), Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University (TAU), and Magtymguly Turkmen State University (TSU). In the framework of GEOCLIC, Turkmen partner universities took part in 8 virtual trainings organised by the EU experts. In 2023, 9 Turkmen university teachers took part in Summer school and training at the Berlin Technical University.
The overall list of implemented products during the project life included:
— Developed and modernised HE curricula and modules compliant with the European modernization agenda for HEIs, including ECTS and new developments in geospatial technologies
— The project Team established and tested the equipped laboratories GEOLAB and virtual rooms CVE
— The equipment purchased in the framework of the project has been used for creation of GEOCOF service centers which should increase the university digital environment and encouraged students to learn digital image processing, big data analysis, environmental modeling, optical and hyperspectral remote sensing data, GIS and other technologies which will bring the CA universities closer to the labor market
— Implementation of the project tasks have also had the effect on the regional aspects: the project Team established good prospects for cooperation between universities and enterprises in the knowledge exchange and sharing educational resources, training competitive specialists with analytical and research skills
MIETC / Development of a Master Programme in the Management of Industrial Entrepreneurship for Transition Countries was launched in January 2020 and targeted to strengthen the academic capacity of Central Asian Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in the Industrial Entrepreneurships through the development and implementation of the interdisciplinary Master programme, and through establishing the sustainable cooperation between HEIs and the labour market. Four Turkmen partners took part in the project: two universities (Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management (TSIEM) and Turkmen State Institute of Finance (TSIEF), and two academic members (Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan (AST) and AST Technological Center.
The key project achievement included:
— Master's programme in Entrepreneurship and Finance. Six developed programs in Management of Industrial Entrepreneurship at each of the Central Asian universities. MSc successfully combined the EU universities' knowledge with local experience of HEIs and business companies. The programme has been designed to meet local labor market needs for specialists in economic forecasting and long-term strategic planning, and with input from stakeholders. The programme pilot version was launched in 2022−2023 academic years.
— During the project life, more than 130 teachers were trained in different areas to ensure high quality education. Several promotion events were organized in four CA countries in order to attract students.
— All project partners were involved in the process of integrating teaching, research and innovation. CA university teachers could build their capacity to implement modern teaching methodologies and improve their international competitiveness. Staff training for MSc curricula was held in March 2023 at Frederico II University, Naples, Italy.
—  MSc program have officially been offered for 2023−2024 academic years at TSIF and TSIEM
— The project promoted the establishment of operational Entrepreneur Centers at four Central Asian universities. Entrepreneurial centers were opened in December 2022 to support the university environment with innovative educational and informational programmes and offer seminars and events for students and entrepreneurs. Master's program in Entrepreneurship and Finance will train specialists for all sectors of the economy, joint-stock companies, manufacturing and service enterprises, economic associations, banking system, and international organizations. Masters will be able to develop research and analytical skills, and implement effective organizational and management solutions. MSc grgraduates in Entrepreneurship and Finance will be prepared to work in economic, financial, marketing and analytical services of all sizes and legal forms of ownership, industry, business sectors and governmental bodies as managers, economists, teachers and researchers.
